It also serves as both political and cultural symbol of national penance for the rebellious surrounding neighborhood, referring to the Sacred Heart of Jesus which is a popular symbol for loving and sympathetic Christ. The basilica started to be build in 1874 and was finished in 1914.

La Conciergerie is a former palace and prison which is located to the west of Île de la Cité, not far from the Notre Dame cathedral. The building of La Conciergerie was built in gothic architecture, a style that was quite famous in that era.

La Conciergerie does not stand alone. It is actually a part of a bigger tourist attraction called Palais de Justice, a government building which is used for judicial purposes. Tourists come to this site to see the prison which serves as a witness of French history. It was in this prison hundreds of prisoners with guillotine sentence were incarcerated.

The three museums located in Les Invalides are, Musée de l’Armée which is a military museum of the French Army, Musée des Plans-Reliefs, and Musée d’Histoire Contemporain. There is also a cemetery located nearby the area which is built to bury French war heroes such as Napoleon Bonaparte.

Soon, people all over the world got familiar with the term, including you. But do you know what Notre Dame really is beside just a famous church in Paris?

As everyone may have known, Notre Dame is a church. The English translation of its name is Our Lady, which refers to Maria, the mother of Jesus. But it is not an ordinary church, it is a Roman Catholic cathedral. Cathedral is a church which has the cathedra, the throne of an archbishop, in it. In the case of Notre Dame, it is the chair of Paris Archbishop who is in charge of the Catholic Archdiocese of Paris. It has a gothic architecture style which some consider as the best in France and Europe.
