Arc de Triomphe is a monument built to commemorate Napoleon’s victory in 1806. Since then, it had been the witness of armies, French or not, marching triumphantly under the arc. Unfortunately, there is no more marching under the arc since a body of an unknown soldier was buried there. Yet, don’t be discouraged, the marching is still done, only rerouted around the arc. A ceremony is held instead for the unknown soldier to honor Frenchmen that died in the war.

Now, today’s Shakespeare and Co, which was built in tribute to the original one, intends to reminiscence the tradition by letting writers to stay for free in exchange for some helping around the bookstore.
