The Palatine Hill

Palatine Hill or Collis Palatium is one of the famous Seven Hills of Rome. This hill happens to be located in the center. Palatine Hill is also special because it is the most ancient part of the city. Its location is on the top, 40 meters above both Forum Romanum and Circus Maximus which bracket the hill from both sides.

History of the Palatine Hill

The History of the Palatine Hill is dominated with legend and Roman mythology. A cave in the hill is believed to be the location where Romulus and Romus were found by the female wolf that eventually raised them for a while until they were found by Faustulus and his wife. As we all know already, Romulus and Remus were the two twins who built the city of Rome according to the legend. They were building the city together before went into a big fight which resulted in Remus’ death.

The Capitoline Hill

The Capitoline Hill, or Collis Capitolinus in Latin, is one of seven famous Rome’s seven hills located between Roman Forum and Campus Martius. This hill is particularly regarded as the most sacred one despite its smallest size among all. The hill, together with the Temple of Jupiter, was a symbol of Caput Mundi or the capital of the world. Here lied important religious and political center of the city.

The main attractions of this hill are most sacred triad temples of Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva. The world-class Capilotine Museum is also a must visit place as here you can see many collections of Roman artifacts.

When you finally make it to the top of the Eiffel Tower, you may gaze across the Seine River and wonder what building is on the top of a hill over there. Well, it is Palais de Chaillot.

Palais de Challiot is a building located on the top of Chaillot hill, a hill located on Trocadero, an area in Paris across the Seine River which makes a good view from the Eiffel Tower. The location where the hill is located, Trocadero, is also the reason why the palais is also known as Trocadero.
